Alexandra Elkobar wants to live a modern lifestyle while her Egyptian parents hold on to their traditional ways. George, her strict father, has had enough with his daughter’s wayward decisions. Aspiring to become a stand-up comic is embarrassing enough, but dating Malèk, a non-Egyptian black man, is simply out of the question! Tensions mount, and Alexandra leaves the Elkobar house and moves in with Malèk. She becomes a success with her stand-up comedy act; poking fun at her family and culture. Newly understanding the importance of her roots, Alexandra decides to claim her place back in the Elkobar clan. When her family acknowledges her talent and hard work, they are finally able to make amends.
